Ooty Trip

Ooty is presently one of the most popular hill stations in South India, which is popuBotanical Gardenlarly known as the "Queen of hill stations’ also called Ughagamandalam in Tamil. It used was erstwhile summer getaway of Britishers.

Ooty is located about 290 KM from Bangalore. It is the capital of Nilgiri district. The interesting part is it has impressive mountain range of the Nilgiris (which varies between 2280 and 2290 meters), the lush green grasslands, the tea gardens, Ooty Lake, Botanical gardens, etc.

Most amazing part is traveling by toy train from Mettupalayam to Ooty (Plan ahead to get tickets reserved for this toy train as it is always crowded).
Ooty Lake One of the major tourist attractions is Ooty Lake. It is an artificial lake built by John Sullivan. The most exciting thing here is boating. The Botanical Gardens in Ooty is worth watching which occupying an area of 50 acres, it lies at the lower slopes of the Dodabetta Peak which is highest peak in Ooty(2623 meters) in Ooty. If you can make it to the top, you are sure to be impressed by the beautiful surrounding landscape views. Rose Garden is worth watching where you can find some thousands of varieties of Roses.

Coonoor is about 20 KM from Ooty. It is well know for Tea Estates. There you can
Tea Estate find many factory shop having different types of Tea powders like chocolate tea, masala tea, green tea, tulsi tea etc. Few other places to watch at Coonor valley view points and a park known as SIMS park, Dolphin nose from where we you can see beautiful waterfall. The route to Dolphins nose is very bad and not much direction pointers to this place.

Getting there :
Road: Bangalore (290 KM), Mysore ( 155 KM ), Coimbathore ( 100 Kms )
Rail: Ooty is connected to Mettupalayam by the toy train. It takes about 1 hr to reach Ooty from Mettupalayam.
Airport: Coimbathore is the closest airport – 100 kms

Best Time : Throughout the year. In winter it can get really cold, you will all the wollens that you have.
