Coorg - Land of Kodavas

We decided on Coorg - Land of Kodavas for a break from busy and routine life. Now a days it is not difficult getting information but it is difficult to get good accommodation. Our idea for this trip was to spend a quality time in fantastic weather and no intention of covering all corners of Coorg. So we have planned almost a couple of months before in order not to get disappointed. We decided on home stay in Coorg rather then a hotel or resort as many suggested for the same(At the end we found the suggestion is valid).
After all googling we found GowriNivas to be one of good home stays and we lucky enough to get the accommodation for 2 days. Route to Coorg is around 240KM from Bangalore. Took the driving directions from Google Maps (it's not really required as we very good sign board till Madikeri). We took the Bangalore - Mysore/Srirangapatna - Husnur - Kushalnagar - Madekeri route. Road is good till Madekeri except bi-pass road after srirangapatna which touches Husnur state highways which is appx 10-15 KM.
Day 1
We started in Bangalore around 6:00 in the morning and we had our breakfast at Kamat’s Lokaruchi, Ramanagaram (Mysore highway) about 50KM from Bangalore. This comes to our right while going towards Mysore. They serve buffet breakfast which contains special Elai idli wrapped in leaves, dosa, pongal, etc. It is one of the best place for breakfast/lunch/ dinner on Bangalore-Mysore highway. We directly went to home stay refreshed ourselves, had lunch at RainTree restaurant behind Town hall, taste and ambiance is really good.
After Lunch our first place to visit is Abbey Falls which is around 7KM from Madikeri. Way to Abbey falls is feast for nature lovers. We spent an hour at Abbey falls and back to Madikeri for shopping some spices and honey(Beware to ask sealed honey else you will end up buying duplicate). Finally for the day we went back to home stay where home made delicious local dishes waiting for us prepared by our host.
Day 2
We started in the morning around 7:30 after breakfast. Near Kushalnagar about five kilometers away was the Namdroling Tibetan Monastery, popularly known as the Golden Temple. In the main building one can see three huge statues, all with gold cladding, with Buddha in the center, Guru Rinpoche on left and Buddha Amitayus on right. Temple is well maintained and worth visiting. next stop is Nisargadhama, which is on the way to Madekeri, turn left from kushal nagar, 5 KM from there you will see a sign board "Cauvery Nisargadhama" Entry fee for adult Rs.10/-. Here you can take elephant ride and you can get into Kaveri River and have some fun time.
Next destination is visit to the Dubare Elephant Camp across the river Cauvery. Ideally it is a half-day programme. Visitors can participate in bathing and feeding the elephants. Unfortunately we could not make it as the Camp will be open only between 9am to 12pm for visitors. We started back and we are in search of good place for Lunch, and finally we got into a place Amanvana Resort food is just OK, the place is really cool it is surrounded by river Kaveri with some real good places to have fun. We spent there almost 3 hrs(initial plan was half an hour). From there we went to last stop for the day Raja's seat to have this spot was a favourite place of recreation for the Rajas. It has very good view of the cliffs and valleys.
Day 3Next place to visit is Talakaveri which is around 45 KM from Madikeri. On the way to talakavari, we have Bhagamandala which is situated at the confluence of two rivers, the Kaveri and the Kanika. A third river, the Sujyothi is said to join from underground. It is considered sacred as a river confluence (kudala or sangama, in Kannada and Sanskrit). The temple here, built in Kerala style and is called Sri Bhagandeshwara temple. Talakaveri or "Talacauvery" is the place which is considered to be the source of the Cauvery River. Finally, though we could cover Nagerhole National Park on return but the road from is so horrible we dropped the idea after reaching Gonikoppal and we came back to Bangalore.
